Cheorwon County Opens Outdoor Skating Rink Built to International Standards
Free Services Offered, Including Skate Rentals and Lessons

Cheorwon County in Gangwon Province, known as the "Winter Kingdom," has introduced the nation's only outdoor skating rink built to international standards to citizens for the New Year.

On January 3, Cheorwon County officially opened the outdoor skating rink located in Oji-ri, Dongsong-eup, and announced that it will operate free of charge for two months until the end of February.

The newly opened skating rink is the largest outdoor ice facility in Korea, constructed at the site designated for the relocation of the Taereung International Skating Rink.

The county expects that this facility will not only improve the health of local residents, but also greatly contribute to winter physical training for military personnel stationed in the area and to revitalizing winter sports activities among local youth.

The Cheorwon County Skating Federation, led by Chairman Kang Chunhak, has made thorough preparations to ensure the convenience of visitors.

The federation will be responsible for snow removal and ice maintenance within the rink, and plans to fully support visitors by offering free skate rentals, skating lessons, and skate blade maintenance services. All visitors are required to wear personal protective gear such as helmets and gloves, and must maintain a safe distance from others while on the ice.

Lee Hyunjong, Governor of Cheorwon County, said, "We have created an international-scale skating rink that takes advantage of Cheorwon's unique characteristics as the coldest and snowiest area in the country. I hope this will become a must-visit winter destination where not only local residents but also tourists coming for the Hantan River Ice Trekking and the Columnar Joint Road can fully enjoy the winter in Cheorwon."
