First Regular Admissions After 2+4 Academic System Integration
Over 400 More Applicants Than Last Year
National Mokpo University announced on January 2 that for the 2026 regular admissions, 1,578 applicants competed for 378 spots, resulting in an average competition rate of 4.17 to 1.
This is the highest number of applicants among universities in the Jeonnam region, with the competition rate rising by 0.24 points compared to the 2025 academic year’s 3.93 to 1. The number of applicants also increased by 406 compared to the previous year (1,172).
The university analyzed that this surge in interest was due to it being the first regular admissions process since establishing the nation's first “2+4 academic system national university model” through integration with Jeonnam Provincial University.
At the Dorim Campus, based on regular admissions, 1,375 applicants competed for 191 spots, resulting in a competition rate of 7.20 to 1. This is a 2.73-point increase from the previous year’s 4.47 to 1, marking the highest rate in the past three years.
Excluding the College of Pharmacy, the Dorim Campus still recorded a competition rate of 6.76 to 1, up 2.68 points from the previous year’s 4.08 to 1. At the Damyang Campus, 178 applicants competed for 134 spots, resulting in a rate of 1.33 to 1.
By admission type, the “Type A College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT)-based General Admission” had 930 applicants for 138 spots, recording a competition rate of 6.74 to 1. The highest competition rate in Type A was for the Department of Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture at 12.5 to 1, followed by the College of Pharmacy (11.9 to 1), and both the Department of English Education and the Department of Mathematics Education (each at 11.0 to 1). The regional talent selection for the College of Pharmacy had 50 applicants for 5 spots (10.0 to 1), and the basic regional talent selection had 11 applicants for 1 spot (11.0 to 1).
For “Type B Student Record-based Admission” at the Damyang Campus associate degree program, 65 applicants competed for 77 spots, resulting in a rate of 0.84 to 1. For “Type C CSAT-based General Admission,” 487 applicants competed for 93 spots, recording a competition rate of 5.24 to 1, with the Department of Cadastral Science posting the highest rate at 16.0 to 1. This was followed by the Department of Education and the Department of Ethics Education (each at 13.0 to 1), and the Department of Food and Pharmaceutical Engineering (11.8 to 1). The Interdisciplinary Studies Department had 111 applicants for 12 spots, resulting in a rate of 9.3 to 1.
The regular admissions competition rate at National Mokpo University has risen for three consecutive years: 2.47 to 1 in 2024, 3.93 to 1 in 2025, and 4.17 to 1 in 2026. The university explained that achievements such as being the only university nationwide to earn an S grade in the Glocal University program, ranking first in employment rate in the Honam region, and ranking first nationwide in per capita scholarships over the past three years have all contributed to increased interest among applicants.
Kim Hyungon, Director of Admissions, stated, “The Glocal University S grade and the nation’s top-level student welfare attracted applicants,” adding, “We will continue to expand student choice and do our best to nurture local talent through the 2+4 academic system integrated university model.”
The list of successful applicants will be announced at 6:00 p.m. on February 2, and the registration period will be from February 3 to 5 until 4:00 p.m.
