On January 2, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province held the opening ceremony for the Year of the Red Horse, the 2026 Byeongo Year (丙午年), at the provincial government auditorium, officially commencing its New Year's work toward a major leap forward for Jeonbuk.
The ceremony began with a visit to the military and police cemetery, followed by a traditional drum performance, a presidential agency commendation ceremony, the New Year's address, and the "Jeonbuk Grand Leap 2026" vision performance.
In particular, the traditional drum performance symbolically highlighted Jeonbuk's key policy directions, such as fostering the physical AI industry and pursuing a bid to host the Jeonju Summer Olympics, sharing the provincial government's vision with attendees.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the presidential agency commendations. The Provincial Safety Policy Division was recognized as an "Outstanding Agency for Establishing National Emergency Preparedness" for its excellent crisis response capabilities demonstrated during the 2025 Eulji Exercise. In addition, the Social Welfare Policy Division was honored with a presidential agency commendation in the childcare policy sector for its contributions to implementing Jeonbuk-style free childcare and promoting customized care policies.
At the conclusion of the event, all staff members raised placards bearing this year's provincial motto, "Yeominyuji (與民由之·Together with the People)," reaffirming their commitment to citizen-centered administration.
In his New Year's address, Kim Kwan-young, Governor of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "2026 is a year to calmly shape Jeonbuk's future together with our residents," and urged, "Please do your utmost to fulfill your responsibilities as public officials, focusing on field-oriented work that closely attends to the lives of our residents."
Starting with this opening ceremony, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province plans to strengthen field-oriented administration in partnership with residents and to diligently pursue provincial work throughout the year.
