The Hanam City Council in Gyeonggi Province (Chairman Geum Kwangyeon) reaffirmed its commitment to implementing its legislative vision for the new year by holding a New Year's ceremony following a visit to the Memorial Tower on the morning of January 2, 2026, marking the Year of the Fire Horse.

Prior to the ceremony, Chairman Geum Kwangyeon, Vice Chairman Jeong Byungyong, Council Operations Committee Chairperson Jeong Hyeyoung, Urban Construction Committee Chairperson Choi Hoonjong, and council members Park Sunmi, Oh Seungcheol, and Oh Jiyeon paid a New Year’s tribute at the Memorial Tower in Changwoo-dong at 8 a.m. They honored the noble patriotism of the fallen patriots and national heroes who sacrificed and dedicated themselves for the country, marking the start of the council’s legislative activities for the new year.
The New Year's ceremony was attended by council members, Park Soonchang, President of the Hanam City Legislative Fellowship Association (former 4th Vice Chairman), its members, and staff of the council secretariat. During the event, they shared the direction for the council's operations in 2026, reaffirmed the role and responsibility of the council for the citizens, and pledged their commitment to future legislative activities.
In his New Year's address, Chairman Geum Kwangyeon stated, "Over the past year, the Hanam City Council has tirelessly placed the will of the citizens at the center of its legislative work. Our efforts to become a 'dignified council that walks with the citizens' have led to meaningful changes, and the trust, response, and achievements from the citizens were made possible thanks to the dedication of each council member and the efforts of the council secretariat staff," expressing his gratitude.
Chairman Geum Kwangyeon continued, "The year 2026 marks the final year of the 9th term of the Hanam City Council, a time that demands greater responsibility than ever before. We will strive to communicate more closely with citizens, set their lives as our standard, and ensure that voices from the field are reflected in our policies and systems."
He further pledged, "I hope that all my fellow council members and the council secretariat will join forces so that the 9th Hanam City Council will be remembered by citizens as a council that fulfilled its responsibilities. As chairman, I will also do my utmost to ensure that our final steps are recorded as the most meaningful."
