Gyeongju City Kicks Off 2026 Municipal Administration, Emphasizes "Changes Citizens Can Feel"

First Official Duty of the New Year Begins with Memorial Tribute
Kickoff Ceremony and New Year's Greeting Event Follow

On January 2, Gyeongju City officially began its municipal administration for the new year of 2026, the Year of the Byeong-o, by holding a memorial service at the Memorial Tower for the Patriotic Martyrs and a kickoff ceremony.


The city’s official schedule began at 7:30 a.m. with a tribute at the Memorial Tower for the Patriotic Martyrs in Hwangseong Park.

The event was attended by more than 160 people, including Mayor Joo Nakyoung, Gyeongju City Council Chairman Lee Donghyup, city and provincial council members, heads of veterans’ organizations, media representatives, and Kim Seokki, Chairman of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, who honored the noble spirit of sacrifice of the fallen patriots and national heroes.


After the memorial tribute, a New Year’s greeting event was held in the main conference room at City Hall.


Mayor Joo Nakyoung presented a letter of appointment to Choi Hyukjun, the new Deputy Mayor, officially announcing the inauguration of a key executive who will help lead the city’s administration in the new year.


During the subsequent greeting event, senior officials, members of the city council, and representatives of the public officials’ union exchanged New Year’s greetings and reaffirmed their commitment to cooperation in municipal governance.


Later, at the 2026 kickoff ceremony held in the Alcheon Hall, public officials from the main office, affiliated agencies, and town and township offices attended.


Through the screening of a promotional video and the Mayor’s New Year’s address, staff members shared the direction for this year’s municipal administration and pledged to maintain steadfast and disciplined governance.


Mayor Joo Nakyoung stated, “Through this New Year’s event, all staff gathered in one place to reaffirm their determination for the year ahead and shared the intention to create changes that citizens can truly feel through unwavering administration and field-oriented governance.”
