Key Projects Accelerated for Future Advancement
The geographical limitations of being a remote island have been overcome through policy.
Throughout 2025, Ulleung County in North Gyeongsang Province achieved significant results across all areas of county administration, including government, safety, agriculture, tourism, and Dokdo policies. The county received major awards and evaluations from various organizations, while also actively pursuing key projects to enhance the region's future competitiveness.
Ulleung County has consistently been recognized for its administrative capabilities in establishing a national emergency preparedness system and disaster and safety response frameworks through evaluations of the Eulji Exercise for cities and counties. The county earned consecutive ratings of 'Encouragement' in 2023, 'Excellent' in 2024, and 'Best' in 2025.
Additionally, Ulleung County was recognized for its policy achievements in the management of Dokdo, strengthening sovereignty, and spreading the value of peace by winning both the 'Dokdo Peace Award' and the 'Samil Culture Award' in succession. The county also officially received recognition for strengthening agricultural competitiveness by winning the 'Special Award for Outstanding Rural Development Project Agency,' organized by the Rural Development Administration.
In the 'Comprehensive Local Tax Administration Evaluation' organized by North Gyeongsang Province, Ulleung County received a special award, demonstrating the overall stability of its fiscal administration.
The county also achieved results in the tourism sector. Nari Village in Ulleungdo was selected as the target for the 5th 'Best Tourism Village' upgrade program organized by the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism), and will receive international support and consulting for sustainable tourism development.
Alongside these achievements, Ulleung County is also accelerating key projects to revitalize the local economy and improve residential conditions.
The Jeodong Port Fishing Village New Vitality Promotion Project was finally selected through a public offering by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and will be implemented in stages starting in 2026. This project is expected to boost local vitality by restoring the fishing village economy and establishing a foundation for stay-type tourism.
Furthermore, Ulleung County was selected for the North Gyeongsang Province underdeveloped area development strategic project, securing a total project budget of 6.8 billion won. This budget will be invested in the installation of water supply infrastructure in the Seokpo area of Buk-myeon. Through this project, upgrades to water transmission and distribution pipelines, as well as the installation of pumping stations and reservoirs, will be carried out in stages, especially in high-altitude areas with insufficient water supply. This is expected to greatly improve water welfare and residential environments for local residents.
County Governor Nam Hankwon stated, "These achievements are the result of Ulleung County's policies and administrative operations being objectively evaluated in each field," and added, "We will continue to do our utmost to ensure stable administration and policy implementation for improving the quality of life for residents and the sustainable development of the region."
