Hamyang County Holds New Year's Sunrise Event at Baegamsan, Praying for Hope and Well-being

A Hopeful New Year Begins with Community Unity

Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province marked the end of 2025 and welcomed the hopeful new year of 2026 by holding a bell-ringing ceremony and a sunrise event, reinforcing the spirit of unity and new beginnings among its residents.


On the morning of January 1, at 7 a.m., a New Year's sunrise celebration took place at the summit of Baegamsan Mountain (elevation 621 meters), with over 500 residents and participants in attendance.


Hosted by the Hamyang Lions Club, the sunrise event began with a ritual praying for peace and well-being. Jin Byeongyeong, the county governor, served as the chief officiant, National Assemblyman Shin Seongbeom as the secondary officiant, and Hamyang Lions Club President Shin Gibaeh as the final officiant, all praying for the health and safety of the county's residents.

The event continued with the delivery of New Year's messages of hope, the ceremonial cutting of a rice cake of wishes, sunrise viewing and making New Year's wishes, and a threefold cheer for the well-being of the community and the development of the region, further highlighting the significance of the new year.


After the ceremony, a rice cake soup sharing event was held at the Dusang Village Hall at the foot of Baegamsan Mountain, where participants exchanged New Year's greetings and celebrated together.


In his message of hope, County Governor Jin Byeongyeong stated, "With the spirit of Baegamsan Mountain and the energy of the new year, I wish for all residents to enjoy health and happiness throughout 2026," adding, "Together with the community, I will strive to create a brighter future for Hamyang."


Prior to this, from 11 p.m. on December 31, 2025, until midnight on January 1, 2026, a New Year's Eve bell-ringing ceremony was held at the County Bell Pavilion.


Hosted by the Hamyang Lotus Lions Club, the event was attended by over 200 people, including local institution and organization leaders and residents. The program included a pre-event performance and the delivery of New Year's messages, followed by a countdown and the ringing of the bell with the participation of the community.


The bell-ringing ceremony marked the end of the past year and the beginning of the hopeful new year of Byeongo, with participants sharing wishes for hope, the well-being of residents, and the development of the region.
