Gyeonggi Province will implement a variety of support projects this year to ensure the safety of apartment complexes and improve residential environments. These initiatives include repairs to common facilities in aging apartment complexes, reinforcement of safety facilities such as fire protection systems, and safety inspections for small-scale apartment complexes.
On January 2, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will allocate 13.2 billion won this year for repairs to common facilities in aging apartment complexes and reinforcement of safety facilities such as fire protection systems, and 2 billion won for safety inspection projects aimed at the safety management of small-scale apartment complexes.
The project for repairing common facilities and reinforcing safety facilities such as fire protection in aging apartment complexes covers not only the replacement of old elevators and transformers and waterproofing of rooftops, but also measures to address the growing public concern over fire prevention and to strengthen safety systems. These measures include relocating electric vehicle charging stations, establishing artificial intelligence (AI)-based smoke detection systems linked to existing CCTV, introducing emergency disaster alert systems, and replacing outdated fire detectors.
In particular, the province will support safety inspections for small-scale apartment complexes that are not subject to mandatory management (those with fewer than 300 households) by subsidizing inspection costs.
The eligible recipients for support with repairs to aging common facilities and safety inspection costs for small-scale apartment complexes are apartment complexes that have been in use for more than 15 years since completion. For reinforcement of safety facilities such as fire protection and support for the installation of air conditioners in security offices, all apartment complexes that have received project plan approval under the Housing Act are eligible, regardless of the number of years since completion.
Hong Ilyoung, Director of the Apartment Housing Division at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Ensuring the safety of apartment complexes and improving residential environments are top policy priorities for safeguarding residents. With the budget secured through cooperation with the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, we will thoroughly reinforce safety facilities such as fire protection systems and do our utmost to enhance residential safety through improvements to living environments and safety inspections."
