Over 10,000 Subscribers Leave KT on First Day of Penalty Waiver

Half of Departing Customers Switch to SK Telecom
Total Number Ported Reaches 35,000... More Than Double the Usual Volume

Over 10,000 Subscribers Leave KT on First Day of Penalty Waiver Yonhap News

On the first day that KT's penalty waiver policy was implemented, more than 10,000 subscribers left the KT network, including users of mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs).

According to the telecommunications industry on January 1, a total of 10,142 subscribers left the KT network the previous day. Of these, 5,784 switched to SK Telecom, 1,880 moved to LG Uplus, and the remaining 2,478 ported their numbers to MVNO providers.

Excluding MVNOs and considering only number portability among the three major mobile carriers, 5,886 subscribers left KT in a single day. Among them, 4,661 switched to SK Telecom and 1,225 moved to LG Uplus.

The total number of number porting cases, including MVNOs, reached 35,595, which is more than double the usual daily average of around 15,000.

Previously, at a press conference on December 30, KT announced that it would waive penalties in the form of refunds for customers wishing to terminate their mobile service contracts until January 13. This policy is also retroactively applied to customers who already canceled their contracts after September 1 of last year.
