Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, stated in his 2026 New Year's address, "Yongin will rise as the world's leading semiconductor mega-cluster and become the semiconductor hub of South Korea." He added, "We will strive to revitalize the economy, increase quality jobs for young people, and build a first-class city rich in culture and sophistication."

The mayor identified the following as core tasks for the new year: meticulous design of future urban spaces, continuous expansion of railway and road networks, investment in education and living infrastructure, and revitalization of public welfare and the local economy.
Mayor Lee also noted that leading companies in the semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment industries-including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, ASML, Lam Research Korea, and Tokyo Electron Korea-are continuously moving into Yongin, which is expected to attract even more investment and create additional jobs.
In particular, regarding recent debates about relocating the semiconductor cluster, Mayor Lee emphasized, "The recent contract signed between Korea Land and Housing Corporation and Samsung Electronics for the sale of industrial land means that the national industrial complex will be developed in Yongin as planned, and the semiconductor cluster will not be relocated to another region."
He added, "The successful establishment of the Yongin Semiconductor Mega Cluster is the future of both Yongin and South Korea, and we will ensure that this project proceeds without disruption, regardless of any political turbulence."
Alongside his plans for economic development, Mayor Lee also presented a blueprint for building urban infrastructure to enhance citizens' quality of life. He said, "Plans to build a grid-like network of expressways and high-speed roads throughout Yongin are making progress, and efforts to expand the railway network are also yielding significant results. The city's initiatives to improve transportation infrastructure are beginning to bear fruit."
Mayor Lee further stated, "As advanced companies move in, the city is steadily promoting future urban development projects that harmonize housing, daily life, and transportation, so that high-tech industry professionals can settle here stably."
He concluded, "To pass on a better city and superior living infrastructure to future generations, I and the city officials will continue to work hard in the new year."
