Governor Kim Jin-tae Greets the New Year at Geumbyeongsan in Chuncheon

Governor Kim Jin-tae of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province began the new year of 2026, the Year of the Fire Horse, by choosing a mountain hike as his first official activity, reaffirming his commitment to "resident-centered administration."

According to Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, Governor Kim welcomed the first sunrise of the new year on January 1 by climbing to the summit of Geumbyeongsan Mountain in Sindong-myeon, Chuncheon City, together with about 30 department heads and staff members from the provincial government in the early morning hours.
The hike began at 5:50 a.m. that day.
Despite the subzero temperatures, Governor Kim engaged in candid conversations with his accompanying aides about the direction of provincial administration for 2026 as they climbed to the summit. He also took time to interact with residents he met along the trail, greeting each person with a handshake, exchanging New Year's wishes, and sharing words of encouragement.
Governor Kim stated, "To create a Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province where residents are truly happy, I plan to prioritize residents in all provincial work," adding, "As we welcome the Year of the Horse in 2026, I wish all our residents a happy and prosperous New Year."
