At the summit, they watched the rising sun and wished for peace and hope in the coming year. Approximately 1,000 citizens participated, far exceeding expectations, and despite the cold weather, the Bongseongsan area was filled with the vibrant footsteps of citizens welcoming the New Year.
The event began at 7 a.m. at the summit of Bongseongsan with about 1,000 citizens in attendance. The program opened with a bright and grand New Year celebration performance by the six-member vocal ensemble 'Bella Voce,' followed by an energetic group drum performance by the percussion troupe 'Nuri,' powerfully announcing the arrival of the New Year. Afterwards, citizens took part in programs to express their wishes for happiness and unity in the community, adding further meaning to the event.
On this day, Kim Byungsoo, Mayor of Gimpo City, stated, "In the Year of the Red Horse, I hope that the introduction of red-colored transportation in Gimpo brings great joy to everyone. Just as the Year of the Red Horse symbolizes challenge and leap forward, I hope this sunrise event delivers the energy of a new beginning to all citizens," and added, "I wish health, happiness, and good fortune to everyone in the New Year."
Bongseongsan, meanwhile, offers a panoramic view of the upper and lower reaches of the Han River and the Gimpo Plain from its summit. On clear days, visitors can also see Munsusan and areas to the north. Thanks to these outstanding views, Bongseongsan has become one of Gimpo's most popular sunrise spots, attracting more and more citizens every year.
