First Official Move with New Year's Address
Presents "Stability in Daily Life and Revitalizing the Local Economy" as Core City Policies
Eom Taehyun (55), former Head of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Low Birthrate Overcoming Headquarters, was inaugurated as Deputy Mayor of Yeongju City as of January 1 and simultaneously began serving as Acting Mayor of Yeongju.
Acting Mayor Eom skipped a separate inauguration ceremony and started his official schedule by delivering a New Year's address, in which he presented "field-oriented responsible administration" as the core direction for city management.
This is interpreted as a clear expression of his intention to minimize concerns about administrative gaps following the transition to an acting mayor system and to prioritize the stability and continuity of city governance above all else.
In his New Year's address, Acting Mayor Eom outlined "ensuring citizens' happiness and stability in daily life" and "revitalizing the local economy" as the core principles for this year's city administration, pledging to steadily advance key strategic projects that will drive Yeongju's future growth.
He emphasized his commitment to unwaveringly pursue major projects that will determine the region's medium- to long-term growth foundation, including a 1.2 trillion won carbon-free power generation project, the establishment of a national industrial complex for advanced bearings, and investment agreements in the defense industry.
Specific action plans for the recovery of the local economy were also presented. Acting Mayor Eom announced his intention to swiftly and timely execute the city’s 1.1 trillion won budget to revitalize local commercial districts, and to enhance rural competitiveness through a major transformation in agriculture centered on smart farms. He also identified the transition to stay-type tourism, the establishment of a robust welfare safety net in response to demographic changes, and the operation of a 24-hour seamless safety network for citizens as key initiatives to be pursued.
Acting Mayor Eom stated, "Although I feel a heavy sense of responsibility as Acting Mayor, I will do my utmost to ensure the stable operation of city affairs so that the daily lives of our citizens are not disrupted, working together with over 1,200 public officials." He added, "I will communicate closely with the city council and citizens and move forward unwaveringly for a new leap forward for Yeongju."
Beginning with a visit to the Memorial Tower for the Fallen Patriots on January 2, Acting Mayor Eom plans to continue his field-oriented approach by directly visiting major project sites to inspect progress and to work toward the early stabilization of the acting mayor system.
