On January 1, Samsung Display announced the world's first 34-inch 360Hz QD-OLED featuring a 'V-Stripe' pixel structure. The company explained that mass production began as early as December of last year, and the product is already being supplied to seven global monitor manufacturers, including Asus, MSI, and Gigabyte.

The V-Stripe structure is characterized by the arrangement of the three primary color subpixels-red (R), green (G), and blue (B)-in vertical stripes. Conventional QD-OLEDs arranged these three subpixels in a simple vertical pattern without stripes.

In the industry, this is commonly referred to as a stripe structure or RGB stripe structure. Samsung Display developed its own stripe pixel structure optimized for quantum dot elements and named it V-Stripe.

Applying this pixel structure enables sharper rendering of text edges, providing an optimal monitor solution for users who are sensitive to text readability, such as those engaged in document work, coding, or content creation. Additionally, the product features a 21:9 ultra-wide aspect ratio, a 360Hz high refresh rate for smooth transitions and fast response times, and peak brightness of 1,300 nits. These characteristics are expected to attract consumers who enjoy fast-paced, immersive games such as sports and racing titles.

Generally, compared to the 16:9 aspect ratio, a 21:9 aspect ratio significantly increases the number of horizontal pixels and the amount of data processed, resulting in greater power consumption and heat generation even at the same refresh rate. It is also known to be difficult to achieve high refresh rates due to the challenge of maintaining uniform signal timing across horizontal pixels. This new product is significant as it represents Samsung Display's success in overcoming these technical challenges.

A company representative stated, "The biggest technical obstacles in mass-producing high refresh rate products with a new pixel structure are reduced lifespan of organic materials, heat generation, and decreased brightness. QD-OLEDs employ a full-surface emission method, which is advantageous in terms of brightness, and by improving the efficiency of organic materials and optimizing the design, we were able to mass-produce a 'high-performance' monitor display that incorporates the V-Stripe pixel structure, ultra-wide aspect ratio, high refresh rate, and high brightness."

The V-Stripe QD-OLED monitor will also be unveiled at 'CES 2026,' which opens in Las Vegas, USA, on January 6 (local time). Asus and MSI will debut new monitor models equipped with V-Stripe QD-OLEDs at CES. Samsung Display will also showcase the panel in a private booth at the Encore at Wynn hotel during the event.

Samsung Display has expressed its intention to maintain its global market leadership in the new year. According to market research firm Omdia, the share of self-emissive panel products in the premium monitor market priced above $500 is expected to rise from 14% in 2024 to 23% in 2025, and 27% in 2026. In the actual market, the shift from LCD to OLED continues. In this context, Samsung Display's QD-OLED shipments for monitor panels last year are estimated at around 2.5 million units, which is expected to secure a market share exceeding 75%, maintaining its overwhelming position as the market leader.

Jung Yongwook, Executive Director and Head of Strategic Marketing at Samsung Display's Large Business Division, stated, "The high-end monitor market, including gaming, is a battleground for the latest display technologies, as consumers are highly sensitive and have high expectations for display quality. As QD-OLEDs are receiving overwhelming support from consumers in this market, we will continue to introduce even more innovative technologies and maintain our market leadership going forward."
