Participant Registration Opens January 12
Yangcheon District in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Gijae) is launching a range of health promotion initiatives in the new year, including smoking cessation support and customized exercise programs.
The district is establishing systematic programs centered around the public health center annex in Sinjeong-dong, as well as the Mok-dong and Sinwol health branches, to help residents consistently practice healthy lifestyle habits in their daily lives.

The public health center annex operates a smoking cessation clinic and a circulation exercise program. The smoking cessation clinic is available year-round, offering one-on-one personalized counseling, support for smoking cessation aids, guidance on coping with withdrawal symptoms, and connections to traditional Korean medicine treatments. For residents who face time or distance constraints, a mobile smoking cessation clinic is also available, visiting workplaces, apartment complexes, and senior centers.
The circulation exercise program is held on the third floor of the health promotion center in the annex, running in three separate 12-week sessions throughout the year. Recruitment for the first session of 2026 will take place from January 12 to 16. The program targets Yangcheon District residents and local workers aged 20 to 75, providing a full-body workout using a total of 12 exercise machines, including eight types of strength training and four types of aerobic exercise. Certified exercise instructors assist participants according to their individual fitness levels and goals.
At the Mok-dong health branch, a "Happy Health Exercise Clinic" is offered for residents with musculoskeletal disorders, a "4050 Health Exercise Class" targets middle-aged adults, and a "Friendly Senior Exercise Class" is available for those aged 65 and older to improve basic fitness and prevent falls.
The Sinwol health branch has organized a walking club, a line dance program for residents aged 60 and above to help combat obesity, and a health companion program for seniors aged 70 and older. Both the Mok-dong and Sinwol health branches also run the "National Fitness 100 Partners" program, which uses specialized equipment to assess cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, and body composition, and provides tailored exercise counseling for residents aged 20 and above.
Lee Gijae, Mayor of Yangcheon District, stated, "When it comes to health goals for the new year, consistent practice is more important than simply starting. Throughout this year, we will continue to offer a variety of programs that residents can easily participate in as part of their daily lives, so that everyone can achieve healthy changes."
