Lee Kijae, Mayor of Yangcheon District in Seoul, stated in his New Year's address this year, "Yangcheon is now firmly on the path of transformation, and in the new year, we will accelerate our leap toward the next 100 years."

In his address, Mayor Lee emphasized that the "New Yangcheon Era," which was promised with the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, is leading to tangible changes across urban renewal, transportation, and everyday infrastructure.

The previously stagnant urban renewal projects have now gained momentum. All 14 apartment complexes in Mok-dong have completed their designation as renewal zones, paving the way for a transformation on the scale of a new city with approximately 47,000 households. In total, renewal projects are progressing smoothly across 66 zones.

There has also been progress in urban infrastructure. The development of the Seobu Truck Terminal held a groundbreaking ceremony to create an advanced urban logistics complex, and construction began on the Daejang-Hongdae Line, which will bring the first subway era to Sinwol-dong. Other projects, such as the development of Mok-dong Sports Complex and the water retention basin, the extension of the Line 2 Sinjeong branch, and the relocation of the Sinjeong train depot, are also being concretized as feasible plans.

Policies directly affecting residents' daily lives have also been strengthened. The district continued substantial support for vulnerable groups, such as the "Level Up Basic Needs" program, and provided property tax reductions for residents affected by airport noise. Additionally, lifelong learning, cultural and arts, and future education infrastructure were expanded in the Sinwol area to help bridge regional gaps.

This year, the district will focus on strengthening the foundation for growth in care, education, and economic vitality. Yangcheon-style childcare services, such as "overnight emergency care" that parents can trust even for elementary-aged children, will be expanded. The district also plans to broaden educational opportunities by providing the largest scholarship support among Seoul's autonomous districts. By attracting businesses, fostering startups, and supporting the revitalization of local commercial districts, the district aims to boost overall urban vitality.

Mayor Lee said, "Yangcheon is now at a crucial juncture for a new leap forward," adding, "Based on our efforts so far, we will move forward as a city preparing for the next 100 years."
