Shocking Hygiene Video from Dujjonku Factory in Hwaseong
Recently, "Dubai Chewy Cookie" (Dujjonku) has gained immense popularity, leading to shortages nationwide. However, controversy has erupted after a video exposing the hygiene conditions at a Dujjonku manufacturing factory in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province was released.
On December 30, JTBC's "Incident Commander" aired a video submitted by an informant, Mr. A. He explained that the footage was filmed three days prior while working a one-day part-time job at a manufacturing plant in Hwaseong.
Ingredients Covering the Counter... Shocking Conditions at the Dujjonku Factory
The factory where Mr. A worked is known for producing Dujjonku and supplying them to bakeries. However, Mr. A revealed that he was put to work immediately without even signing a labor contract or having his health certificate checked, bypassing basic procedures.
He stated, "What was even more shocking was the hygiene condition of the factory," and claimed, "Rags were used for over four hours without replacement or washing, sneakers were strewn across the kitchen floor, and some employees did not wear masks or work clothes."
The video filmed by Mr. A shows ingredients smeared all over the counter, and the scale used for weighing ingredients appeared dirty, as if it had never been cleaned. Containers filled with ingredients were left open on the floor, making it easy for dust or foreign substances to get in.

"I Was Deeply Shocked Thinking This Would Go Into Someone's Mouth"
Due to the extremely poor hygiene conditions, Mr. A said he could not complete his shift and went home early. He confessed, "I was truly shocked at the thought that food made in that factory would end up in someone's mouth."
After watching the video, online users commented, "I will never eat Dujjonku again," "I knew it would be dirty, but not to this extent," "This is so shocking," "Companies that mess around with food should be severely punished," and "I thought this was a news story from China."
Dujjonku is a dessert made by mixing Turkish-style thin noodles called kadaif with jam made from pistachios and chocolate, then wrapping it in dough made from melted marshmallows. Its chewy exterior and crispy interior have captivated the tastes of Millennials & Gen Z.
Its popularity soared after celebrities such as Jang Wonyoung and Kim Sejeong featured it on their social media accounts, causing search volume on delivery apps to skyrocket by 1,500 times. At popular stores, customers have to wait in line for more than 30 minutes to get a taste, leading to the creation of the new term "Du-keting" (Dujjonku + ticketing).
Meanwhile, the price of Dujjonku continues to rise due to supply issues with pistachios and kadaif. Recently, Dujjonku priced at 12,000 won per piece has appeared, sparking heated debates among online users about the price.
