Sunrise in Seoul at 7:47 a.m.
Up to 10cm of Snow Expected in Honam Region
On January 1, the first day of the new year, most regions across the country will experience clear skies, making it possible to view the sunrise in most areas. However, temperatures are expected to drop significantly, and strong winds will make it feel extremely cold.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on December 31, the country will be mostly clear on January 1 due to the influence of a cold continental high-pressure system expanding from northern China. However, the Jeolla region will be mostly cloudy, and Jeju Island is expected to be overcast.

As a result, sunrise will be visible in most regions. However, on the west coast of the Jeolla region and on Jeju Island, low clouds moving in from the sea will make it difficult to see the sunrise. The main sunrise times for key locations are: Seoul at 7:47 a.m., Gangneung at 7:40 a.m., Daejeon at 7:42 a.m., Jeonju at 7:41 a.m., Gwangju at 7:41 a.m., Daegu at 7:36 a.m., Busan at 7:32 a.m., and Jeju at 7:38 a.m.
From the morning of January 1, rain or snow is expected on Jeju Island, and from the night, it will spread to the west coast of the Jeolla region and the southern inland areas of North Jeolla Province. The expected snowfall is more than 10 centimeters in some areas along the west coast of North and South Jeolla Provinces, and more than 30 centimeters in mountainous areas of Jeju Island. The expected precipitation is around 1 millimeter on the west coast of South Chungcheong Province, 5 to 10 millimeters on the west coast of South Jeolla Province, and 5 to 30 millimeters on Jeju Island.
As cold air moves in from the northwest, temperatures will drop sharply. The expected morning lows for January 1 are: Seoul -11 degrees Celsius, Incheon -11 degrees, Suwon -12 degrees, Chuncheon -14 degrees, Gangneung -7 degrees, Cheongju -12 degrees, Daejeon -12 degrees, Jeonju -8 degrees, Gwangju -6 degrees, Daegu -8 degrees, Busan -4 degrees, and Jeju 1 degree.
