Lee Donghwan, Mayor of Goyang Special City, expressed his ambition for the upcoming Year of the Fire Horse (Byeongo Year) in 2026, stating, "We will open a bright future for Goyang Special City through dynamic innovation."

In his New Year's address, Mayor Lee first said, "I extend my deepest gratitude and respect to all citizens who have made 2026 shine brighter than any other year for Goyang Special City," adding, "The precious trust and support you have given us have been the strongest driving force that allowed Goyang Special City to move forward unwaveringly, no matter the difficulties."

He continued, "In the new year, Goyang Special City will focus all its capabilities on improving the quality of life for each and every citizen and implementing citizen-centered, compassionate administration." He presented the core keywords for the city's administration in the new year as: ▲ citizen-centered, compassionate administration ▲ stabilization of people's livelihoods ▲ securing future growth engines.

Goyang Special City has finalized its 2026 budget at 3.421 trillion won, an increase of approximately 80 billion won compared to the previous year, and plans to concentrate all administrative efforts on attracting businesses and creating jobs to achieve the designation as a Free Economic Zone.

Additionally, the city aims to solidify its status as a global MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) city by fostering future industrial ecosystems such as Ilsan Techno Valley and Goyang Broadcasting & Video Valley, as well as constructing the third KINTEX exhibition hall (with a budget allocation of 45 billion won).

Mayor Lee stated, "Improving the quality of life for each and every citizen is the very reason for the city's administration," promising to establish a robust welfare safety net, expand educational infrastructure, and build a resource circulation system in response to the climate crisis.

Finally, Mayor Lee added, "Through trustworthy administration, we will realize the precious values we have promised to our citizens," and wished, "May every household be filled with vitality and joy, and may all your hopes be fulfilled in this meaningful year."
