Police Search Home of Former Unification Church Chief Secretary

The Special Investigation Task Force of the National Office of Investigation at the National Police Agency announced on December 31 that they had searched the residence of the former chief secretary, who is currently considered a witness.

The police reportedly attempted to secure physical evidence in relation to suspicions that the Unification Church provided Assemblyman Jeon Jae-soo of the Democratic Party of Korea with a luxury watch and 20 million won in cash, along with requests regarding pending issues.

Previously, the police referred the former chief secretary and Han Hakja, president of the Unification Church, to the prosecution on charges of violating the Political Funds Act, over allegations of so-called "split donations" to politicians.
