Sunchang County Named 'Excellent Institution' in Ministry of the Interior and Safety Disaster Management Evaluation

Securing a Special Grant of 130 Million Won

Sunchang County in North Jeolla Province has been selected as an excellent institution for two consecutive years in the '2025 Disaster Management Evaluation,' following last year.

According to the county on December 31, the evaluation, organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, was conducted for 340 disaster management agencies nationwide. The assessment covered a total of 44 detailed indicators across six areas, ranging from disaster prevention and preparedness to response and recovery, and included both document reviews and on-site evaluations.

As a result, the county secured a special grant of 130 million won and a prize of 4 million won as financial incentives, reaffirming its status as a local government with outstanding disaster safety management capabilities.

This year, in particular, the scoring for on-site interviews was significantly increased, and customized questions focusing on real disaster response cases were strengthened. This placed greater emphasis on evaluating the practical on-site response capabilities of local governments.

The county has established a systematic response manual and a training system focused on real-world scenarios, concentrating on strengthening its initial response capabilities in the event of a disaster.

It also received high marks for its ongoing, multifaceted efforts to enhance the 'practical operability' of disaster management, such as strengthening interdepartmental collaboration, enhancing training for responsible officials, and increasing budget allocations.

Choi Youngil, the county governor, stated, "Systematic management is crucial at every stage of disaster management, from prevention and preparedness to response and recovery. Building on the results of this evaluation, we will establish an even more robust safety net and continue to develop a disaster response system that residents can truly experience."
