Kang Suhyun, Mayor of Yangju City, expressed her ambition to solidify Yangju's position as the central city of northern Gyeonggi Province in the upcoming 2026 Byeongo Year, pledging to focus the city's administrative capabilities on creating a residential environment where citizens can enjoy happiness.
In her New Year's address, Mayor Kang stated, "Despite internal and external uncertainties last year, we achieved remarkable growth across all sectors, including transportation, industry, education, and culture."
Mayor Kang noted, "Even amid challenging external conditions last year, Yangju City achieved first place nationwide in the 'Residential Competitiveness' category of the 2025 National Urban Competitiveness Evaluation." She added, "This is an indicator that proves the quality of life, as genuinely felt by our citizens, has improved alongside population growth."
Mayor Kang went on to say, "In particular, we laid the foundation for urban growth by establishing key infrastructure for the local economy and transportation, such as the sale of lots in Gyeonggi Yangju Technovalley and Eunnam Industrial Complex, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Okjeong-Pocheon metropolitan railway, and the reopening of the Gyoe Line. In addition, we have steadily expanded our cultural and educational base through achievements such as Haeeamsaji Temple Site being selected for the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, the successful hosting of our city's signature festivals-including the Haeeamsaji Royal Festival, the Ten Million Globe Amaranth Festival, and the Drone Bot Festival-being chosen as an excellent case for the Special Education Development Zone and promoted to a leading region, and the completion of the only integrated IB curriculum for elementary, middle, and high schools in northern Gyeonggi Province."
She continued, "These efforts to establish a foundation for urban growth have led to a meaningful change in the form of population increase, and in the 2025 National Urban Competitiveness Evaluation, Yangju was selected as the 'most livable city for citizens,' ranking first among 85 cities nationwide in the residential competitiveness category." She emphasized, "All of these achievements were made possible by the deep trust of 300,000 Yangju citizens and the dedicated efforts of over 1,000 public officials."
Mayor Kang Suhyun stated, "In the new year of 2026, like a passionate red horse running toward its goal, I will listen closely to the voices of our citizens and implement field-oriented administration. I am determined to make this a decisive year in which Yangju rises to become not only the best city to live in northern Gyeonggi Province, but also in all of Korea."
In conclusion, Mayor Kang added, "In the Byeongo New Year, I wish for health and happiness to fill every household, and for all your aspirations to be fulfilled."
