A Total of 25 Projects Covering Local Issues and Disaster Safety
Hwasun County in South Jeolla Province has secured a total of 7.17 billion won (approximately 7.2 billion won) in special grants for 2025.
According to the county on December 31, special grants are funds provided by the central government to cover urgent and special financial needs of individual local governments, or to respond to unexpected changes in financial conditions, which are difficult to reflect in the calculation of ordinary grants.
This special grant is the largest amount ever received by Hwasun County, and it reflects a comprehensive review of the necessity and urgency to resolve key local issues, despite challenging financial conditions.
By sector, the county secured a total of 2.9 billion won (for six projects) to address local issues, including 1 billion won for the construction of a children's playground at Dongguri Lake Park, 500 million won for the expansion of the local water supply in Geumjeon-ri, Hancheon-myeon, and 400 million won for the streetlight installation project in Daji-ri, Hwasun-eup.
Additionally, for disaster safety needs, the county secured a total of 3.24 billion won (for ten projects), including 700 million won for the repair and reinforcement of the Saecheong Bridge, 500 million won for follow-up measures after the removal of illegal facilities in river valleys, and 500 million won for the renovation of irrigation facilities in the Yonggye District. These funds will be used to prevent disasters and strengthen safety infrastructure.
The county also achieved excellent results in various central government evaluations, securing 1.03 billion won (for nine projects) in policy demand incentives (local government incentives). These incentives include 200 million won for outstanding climate disaster response, 200 million won for excellence in implementing livelihood recovery consumption coupons, and 420 million won for excellence in promoting natural disaster measures and disaster management evaluations.
Governor Koo Bokgyu expressed his gratitude, saying, "I would like to thank our local National Assembly member Shin Jeonghoon for his efforts in securing a significant amount of special grants," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that the secured budget quickly translates into tangible results."
He further stated, "We will continue to actively implement administration that residents can feel in their daily lives, and together with all our staff, strive to make Hwasun a county where residents are truly happy."
