Noh Taeak, Chairman of the National Election Commission, pledged on January 1 that he would ensure there would be no negligence in fulfilling the constitutional duty of realizing popular sovereignty in this year's local elections.


In his New Year's address, Chairman Noh stated, "In June this year, the 9th nationwide simultaneous local elections will be held, which realize democracy in the areas closest to our daily lives." He added, "The National Election Commission will thoroughly prepare for this election, fully recognizing its significance and value, so that it can become a process for further advancing local autonomy."


He said, "We will manage all election work fairly in accordance with the law and principles, and make every effort to accurately and transparently disclose key election processes to prevent unnecessary misunderstandings or suspicions." He continued, "We will respond strictly to any acts that undermine the order of elections and strive to create a free and fair election environment."

Chairman Noh also reaffirmed his commitment to restoring public trust in the National Election Commission. He said, "This year as well, we will not cease our efforts to innovate the organization in order to regain the trust of the people." He added, "We promise to enhance our professionalism and transparency, prioritize fairness above all, and transform ourselves into a constitutional institution that meets the demands of the times."


He stated, "Through ongoing self-reflection and self-purification efforts, rather than one-off measures, we will meticulously review and implement each policy proposal so that it can be realized. We will further accelerate improvements in organizational culture and the management of flawless election procedures until the public is fully satisfied."
