Moonin to Resign as Buk-gu Mayor on the 8th of Next Month... Accelerates Preparations for Gwangju Mayoral Election

Publication Celebration to Be Held on January 18 Next Year
at Kimdaejung Convention Center

Moonin, Mayor of Buk-gu, Gwangju, who is running in next year's Gwangju Metropolitan Mayor election, will step down from his position as of midnight on the 8th of next month. In accordance with the resignation procedure, Mayor Moon has submitted his resignation notice to the Buk-gu Council.

According to Buk-gu, Gwangju, on the 31st, Mayor Moon submitted his resignation notice to the Buk-gu Council the previous day. Heads of local governments are required by the Public Official Election Act to resign a certain period before the election day, and must submit a written notice to the local council chairperson at least 10 days prior to the intended resignation date. Mayor Moon will work until midnight on the 8th of next month and will hold a retirement ceremony at the district office.


After his resignation, the Deputy Mayor of Buk-gu will serve as acting mayor and manage district affairs. The Buk-gu Council will officially record the receipt of his resignation notice.


Mayor Moon previously served as Gwangju's Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs, Head of the Waterworks Headquarters, and Director of the Autonomous Administration Bureau. He was inaugurated as the 7th popularly elected Mayor of Buk-gu in July 2018 and served through the 8th term. His campaign office will be set up in a commercial building near Sejeong Outlet in Chiepyeong-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, and his publication celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on the 18th of next month at the Kimdaejung Convention Center in Gwangju.
