On December 31, the police investigating allegations of political lobbying by the Unification Church summoned an internal official who was responsible for the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel project for questioning.
The Special Investigation Task Force of the National Office of Investigation announced that starting at 11:00 a.m. on this day, they are questioning Park, the chairman of the World Peace Road Foundation, a group related to the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel under the Unification Church, as a reference witness.
Chairman Park is the successor to Song Gwangseok, the former president of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), who, along with President Hak Ja Han and others, was referred to the prosecution the previous day on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.
Since lobbying for the Korea-Japan Undersea Tunnel project has been identified as a key link in the Unification Church's political lobbying, the police are expected to verify the activities of the UPF and the World Peace Road Foundation with Chairman Park, a central figure in the matter.
