Busan Port Authority to Improve Residential Environment for National Veterans Living Near the Port

Business Agreement Signed with Korea Habitat
Customized Housing Welfare Reflecting Public Proposals

Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Song Sangkeun) has partnered with a specialized housing welfare institution to improve the residential environment of national veterans living near the port.

On December 30, Busan Port Authority signed a business agreement with Korea Habitat to improve the residential environment of national veterans living near the port. The signing ceremony was attended by Jeong Wondong, Executive Vice President of Busan Port Authority, and Yoon Hyungjoo, Chairman of Korea Habitat, who reaffirmed their commitment to collaboration.

This agreement was promoted to substantially improve the living conditions of vulnerable groups residing near the port through cooperation between a public institution and a specialized housing welfare organization. In particular, the project gained momentum after a proposal to improve the residential environment for vulnerable groups living near the port was selected in Busan Port Authority’s ‘Port Innovation National Proposal Contest’ for the first half of 2025.

The national proposal included specific implementation plans, such as installing window sashes to reduce noise in areas adjacent to the port, and is being recognized as a model case of turning public opinion into a social contribution project.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will select two households of national veterans living in the Busan and Gyeongnam areas near Busan Port and carry out customized residential environment improvements. The main support includes installing window sashes for noise reduction, repairing the interiors of aging homes, and upgrading facilities to enhance living safety. These efforts will be systematically implemented based on Korea Habitat’s expertise in residential improvement.

Busan Port Authority will sponsor the necessary project funds for this initiative and plans to participate in every stage of the project by engaging its employees in volunteer activities, ensuring that the national proposal is realized on site.

Song Sangkeun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, "This agreement is a representative example of turning public proposals into actual social contribution activities. As this is a meaningful project that honors local residents and national veterans near the port, we will continue to expand the creation of social value and regional cooperation based on public participation."

Busan Port Authority is actively fulfilling its social responsibility as a public institution by carrying out a variety of community-based social contribution activities centered around its social contribution brand ‘PORTner,’ and by implementing effective social contribution models linked to public participation proposals.
