13 Local Centers to Extend Hours for Children Aged 6 to 12
Open Until 10 p.m. or Midnight
Daejeon City will implement the "Extended Nighttime Childcare Program at Local Childcare Centers" starting January 5, 2026, at 13 local childcare centers, extending their operating hours until 10 p.m. or midnight.
This program was launched to address the gap in nighttime childcare services and to support parents in balancing work and family life.
Through the extended nighttime childcare program, the public protection system will be further strengthened, allowing parents who return home late due to working overtime or evening jobs to entrust their children with peace of mind.
Out of the 136 local childcare centers in the city, 13 will extend their operating hours from the current 8 p.m. to either 10 p.m. or midnight. Eleven centers will operate until 10 p.m., while two centers will remain open until midnight.
Any guardian can entrust children aged 6 to 12 until 10 p.m. or midnight, and applications can be made by contacting the Daejeon Local Childcare Center Support Group call center or the respective facility up to two hours before use. Facility information can be easily found on the Child Rights Guarantee Agency website.
Kim Jongmin, Director of Welfare at Daejeon City, stated, "Through this extended childcare program, we will do our best to ease the childcare burden for dual-income families and minimize the blind spots in nighttime care."
