Applications Accepted January 2-16 Next Year
Targeting Students Enrolled in the Seoul Metropolitan Area
Gwangju City and South Jeolla Province will select 725 new residents for Namdo Hak-suk in 2026, targeting students currently enrolled at universities in the Seoul metropolitan area. Applications will be accepted from January 2 to January 16, 2026.
The Namdo Scholarship Foundation announced on the 31st that it will select 362 students from Gwangju and 361 from South Jeolla Province as residents of Namdo Hak-suk, and will recruit two students with disabilities regardless of city or province. The number of residents to be admitted by facility is 423 for the 1st Namdo Hak-suk (Dongjak-gu, Seoul) and 302 for the 2nd Namdo Hak-suk (Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul). Applicants may choose the facility they wish to apply for.
Eligible applicants are university and graduate students whose legal guardian's resident registration is in Gwangju City or South Jeolla Province and who are enrolled at universities located in Seoul, Incheon, or Gyeonggi Province. Applications can be submitted online through the Namdo Hak-suk website or by mail to Gwangju City or South Jeolla Province, depending on the guardian's registered address.
The selection evaluation will be based on 30% academic performance and 70% living conditions according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare's median income standard. For new university students, living conditions will account for 100% of the evaluation. Additional points are given to socially disadvantaged applicants, families with multiple children, and recipients of national merit. Starting this year, children of victims of the '12·29 Plane Crash' will receive an extra 5 points in accordance with the special law related to the incident.
The final list of successful applicants will be announced on the Namdo Hak-suk website on February 3, 2026. Those not selected will be placed on a waiting list and will be admitted in order if vacancies arise.
Namdo Hak-suk is a metropolitan dormitory facility jointly established and operated by Gwangju City and South Jeolla Province. The 1st facility opened in 1994, and the 2nd in 2018. Currently, 1,454 students reside at the facilities, with 850 at the 1st and 604 at the 2nd.
