SH Establishes SMART Construction Technology Innovation Plan: "Enhancing Productivity and Strengthening Safety"

Seoul Housing & Communities Corporation (SH) announced on December 30 that it has established the 'SH SMART Construction Technology Innovation Plan' and will work to enhance construction productivity as well as strengthen safety and quality.

This plan is a smart construction technology roadmap based on five key strategies: 'S'ustainability, 'M'odular, 'A'rtificial Intelligence, 'R'obotics automation, and 'T'echnology-transition. The ten core initiatives include optimization of green building technology, zero-energy optimization, customized precast concrete (PC) by component, an integrated guide for off-site construction (OSC) methods, an artificial intelligence (AI) work support pack, an AI knowledge management pack, Internet of Things (IoT) digital sensing, construction robots, standardization of Building Information Modeling (BIM), and digital twin technology.

SH plans to organize and systematize the smart construction technologies it has previously pursued by field, and gradually advance them in sequence.

For sustainability, the company will develop optimization strategies and guidelines for green building and zero-energy ratings based on cost-benefit analysis of eco-friendly technologies. In the modular sector, SH will update the latest trends, such as component-specific precast concrete technology, along with its already developed practical guidebooks for steel and precast concrete, to create an integrated practical guide for off-site construction methods. SH also plans to develop its own AI-based knowledge and technology management package for company-wide use. In addition, by analyzing trends in robotics and IoT-based digital sensing technology, the company will sequentially verify and implement customized technologies for multi-family housing. Finally, in the technology transition sector, SH will work to expand the use of Building Information Modeling technology from the design phase to the construction phase to drive digital transformation.

SH has actively promoted the adoption of smart technologies in fields such as AI, IoT, off-site construction methods, and Building Information Modeling.

The company developed a construction safety AI called 'SAFE' (tentative name), which detects risk factors through site photo analysis, provides relevant legal requirements for corrective actions, and generates reports. This AI has been piloted at three sites.

In addition, SH has built a 'Ready-Mixed Concrete Smart Management System' that enables real-time monitoring by receiving key quality information such as concrete strength and mix ratio directly from the plant. To improve understanding of structural drawings and prevent poor construction, SH conducted 'On-site BIM Education' at three sites this year. Earlier this year, the company also established the 'PC Multi-Family Housing Design Guidelines' and is currently developing a demonstration complex at 'Magok-dong 1410' in Gangseo-gu.

Hwang Sangha, President of SH, stated, "To address declining labor productivity in the construction industry and prevent industrial accidents, we will actively introduce smart construction technologies to drive a paradigm shift in construction," adding, "We will continue to expand the adoption of smart technologies and grow into a leading institution in the digital construction ecosystem."
