"No Consent to Martial Law... Committed to Thorough Self-Reflection"
Kim Doeup, Policy Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, stated on the 30th regarding the December 3 Martial Law Incident, "We sincerely apologize to the people for the very fact that a martial law crisis occurred during the presidency of a leader produced by the People Power Party."
At the People Power Party's floor countermeasures meeting held at the National Assembly on this day, Chairman Kim mentioned the dismissal of the arrest warrant for former floor leader Chu Kyungho, saying, "No member of the People Power Party had prior knowledge of the martial law, nor did anyone consent to it."
He further emphasized, "Separate from this, we deeply reflect with a heavy heart on the confusion caused to the public by the declaration of martial law."
Chairman Kim said, "Now, we will return to our original intentions, thoroughly reflect, and reform ourselves," adding, "To fully protect the liberal democratic Republic of Korea against the unconstitutional and undemocratic Lee Jaemyung administration, the People Power Party must establish an anti-Lee Jaemyung front and achieve a grand conservative unity."
He continued, "One of the four-character idioms selected by professors this year is 'Cheonmyeongmisang' (天命靡常), which means that the will of heaven is not constant. In other words, we must recognize the power of public sentiment and act accordingly," urging, "The Democratic Party must stop political manipulation and unconstitutional behavior, even at this point in time."
