Recruiting Participants for the Dream Art Troupe
Through the "Winter Art Playground" Program
Children and teenagers in Yeongdeok County, North Gyeongsang Province, are diving into a sea of art instead of hopping from one private academy to another.
The Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation is recruiting participants for the "Winter Art Playground," an arts program for children and teenagers that will run from January to February 2026 during the winter break.
The "Winter Art Playground" is a special winter break cultural arts education program designed to allow children and teenagers to experience art as play and freely express themselves both physically and emotionally.
The program offers first-time cultural arts education experiences in various genres such as dance, orchestra, and ballet, and is structured to encourage ongoing participation, eventually leading to the "Dream Art Troupe."
The "Winter Art Playground," which is divided into the Dream Dance Troupe, Dream Orchestra, and Children's Ballet Troupe, continues the vision of the "Dream Art Troupe" project promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service, but is operated with Yeongdeok's own budget.
The "Dream Art Troupe" is a cultural arts education initiative that goes beyond one-off short-term experiences, supporting children and teenagers to develop self-expression and collaboration skills through artistic activities, and to grow into well-rounded individuals with artistic sensibility. The Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation launched this project to create an environment where local children, often considered to be in a cultural blind spot, can receive high-quality arts education on a continuous basis and further develop through these experiences, by running arts troupes tailored to local conditions.
Specifically, the Dream Dance Troupe is a creative dance education program focused on expressing thoughts and emotions through movement. It operates by providing basic physical training and collaborative creative processes with peers, helping participants understand themselves and develop a sense of community.
The Dream Orchestra is a music education program that fosters both musical skills and teamwork through basic instrument instruction and ensemble practice.
In particular, with the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation recently being designated as a new base institution for the Dream Orchestra, more stable and systematic orchestra education is now possible. The new members recruited through this "Winter Art Playground" will be able to continue with long-term training.
The Children's Ballet Troupe is a physical arts education program that teaches basic ballet movements and expressive activities. Starting with stretching and basic posture training, participants learn ballet techniques and methods of expression, helping them develop balance and flexibility. Class times will be determined through interviews and auditions, taking into account the level and characteristics of each child.
The "Winter Art Playground" is open to students from first grade in elementary school to middle school as of 2026. In particular, the program will prioritize students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds (such as single-parent, grandparent-headed, multicultural, or low-income families) to expand access to arts education.
An education officer at the Yeongdeok Culture and Tourism Foundation stated, "The Dream Art Troupe is an educational initiative that helps children discover themselves and continuously grow within their community through art," adding, "We hope that through the Winter Art Playground, children and teenagers in Yeongdeok will have more opportunities to engage closely with the arts."
