Yangpyeong County Successfully Hosts Climate Empathy Forum
Yangpyeong County in Gyeonggi Province (Governor Jeon Jinseon) announced on December 30 that it had successfully held the "Yangpyeong Climate Empathy Forum" at the Mulbit Theater of Yangpyeong Library on the 26th.

This forum, under the theme "Yangpyeong We Create, Tomorrow We Change," was organized as a participatory platform for public discussion involving local residents, experts, and related organizations. Residents and environmental stakeholders attended the event, engaging in meaningful discussions about the region's response to the climate crisis.
The first session, "Climate: Changing the Temperature of Our Lives," featured the sharing of results from the "Our Neighborhood Climate Research Center" campaign, a collaboration with the Metropolitan Meteorological Administration, and recognized outstanding participants. The session highlighted citizen-led climate action by showcasing cases where residents observed temperatures at designated times during the summer and recorded their carbon-neutral lifestyle practices on "Padlet."
The second session, "Opening a Climate Community Together: The Future of Yangpyeong," included expert lectures and panel discussions in the field of climate and environment. Panelists engaged in in-depth discussions on the importance of resident participation in promoting local climate and carbon neutrality policies, as well as practical measures to address the climate crisis.
At the venue, various programs such as environmental book recommendations (book curation) to promote Yangpyeong as an environmental education city, and exhibitions and hands-on activities for upcycling toys, were offered and well received by participants. The toy donation campaign, held as a pre-event, also encouraged voluntary participation from residents and served as a catalyst for expanding climate action.
Governor Jeon Jinseon stated, "This forum moved away from an administration-centered, one-sided approach and instead provided an opportunity to discuss climate issues and seek solutions together with residents. Going forward, we will continue to create various participatory policies and platforms for communication so that climate crisis response and carbon neutrality practices can naturally spread throughout the local community."
Meanwhile, as an environmental education city, Yangpyeong County continues to promote resident participation policies that link climate crisis response, carbon neutrality, and environmental education, striving to build a sustainable local community.
