Knew the Withdrawal Route in Advance
Snatched the Bag on a Motorcycle, Booked on Theft Charges
A man in his 40s has been apprehended on suspicion of snatching his friend's bag of money while riding a motorcycle.
On December 30, the Bundang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they have booked Mr. A on theft charges and are currently investigating the case.
Mr. A is accused of riding a motorcycle and snatching a bag of money from Mr. B, a man in his 40s, before fleeing the scene on a residential road in Yatap-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam City, at around 4 p.m. the previous day. The bag contained 85 million won that Mr. B had withdrawn from a bank.
According to the police investigation, Mr. A and Mr. B are friends. Mr. A reportedly committed the crime after learning in advance that Mr. B would be heading toward Yatap-dong after withdrawing the money.
At the time, Mr. B did not recognize Mr. A, who was wearing a helmet, and immediately reported the incident to the police. When officers arrived, they asked Mr. B if there was anyone who knew about the large withdrawal, and Mr. B thought of Mr. A and contacted him right away.
It has been reported that Mr. A admitted to the crime when contacted by phone, claiming it was "just a prank."
Mr. A then returned to the scene and gave the money back in full. The police took him in for questioning and booked him on theft charges.
The motorcycle used in the crime was found to have been borrowed from another person.
The police are continuing to investigate the specific circumstances of the case.
