On the 29th (local time), The Guardian in the United Kingdom reported, citing an official decree published in the French government gazette, that "George Clooney, along with his spouse Amal Clooney and their two children, has received French citizenship."

Earlier this month, Clooney publicly expressed his intention to acquire French citizenship, referencing France's culture of privacy protection. In an interview with France's RTL radio at the time, Clooney said, "I love French culture and language," adding, "I've taken French lessons for over 400 days, but I'm still not very fluent."

He particularly emphasized, "In France, people do not take photos of children," and "There are no paparazzi hiding in front of schools. For us, that is the most important thing."

Now a dual citizen of the United States and France, Clooney has had long-standing ties with Europe. He has lived in Europe since before his marriage in 2014, and together with his wife-who is a British-Lebanese human rights lawyer fluent in French-they maintain residences across various parts of Europe.

In 2002, Clooney purchased a villa near Lake Como in Italy, and later acquired a historic house in the United Kingdom. In 2021, he also bought a former wine estate near Brignoles in southern France.

The couple also owns properties in New York and Kentucky in the United States, but it has been reported that they sold their homes in Los Angeles and Mexico over the past decade.

The Clooneys currently have eight-year-old twin children. In the RTL interview, Clooney stated, "Although we move around frequently, France is the place where we are happiest."

The couple has long been open supporters of the Democratic Party. In an interview last March, Clooney also criticized U.S. President Donald Trump for suppressing the free press.

Meanwhile, Clooney has been active not only as an actor but also as a director and producer. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the film "Syriana" in 2006, and also received the Best Picture award as a producer for the 2012 film "Argo," winning two Oscars in total.
