Reflecting 13 Field Meetings...
Research Support System Shifts to a "Field-Oriented" Approach
The user interface (UI·UX) of the research support system (IRIS) will be completely revamped to make it more intuitive for researchers, and a real-time integration system with each institution's internal systems will be established. Features that reduce repetitive administrative tasks and data entry burdens will also be significantly enhanced, with the system being redesigned to increase researchers' immersion in their work.
The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on December 30 at the Korea Science and Technology Center in Seoul that it will hold the '2025 IRIS Performance Report and Improvement Idea Contest Awards Ceremony,' and will release the core IRIS improvement achievements identified this year through communication with the research field.
The IRIS improvements being announced are the result of feedback collected during 13 research field meetings held throughout the year. The key improvements include: ▲ a UI·UX overhaul redesigned from the researcher's perspective for greater intuitiveness; ▲ enhanced convenience features to reduce administrative burdens; ▲ and the establishment of a real-time integration system with university and research institute internal platforms.
Through these measures, the Ministry of Science and ICT aims to reduce the time researchers spend on administrative procedures and create an environment where they can focus more on research planning and execution.
Researcher-Proposed Improvement Ideas Reflected in the Actual System
The first part of the event will feature an awards ceremony for the IRIS Improvement Idea Contest. Among the field-oriented ideas directly proposed by researchers, 11 outstanding entries will be selected and awarded.
The awards will be presented as follows: ▲ 2 Gold Prizes (1 million won each), ▲ 2 Silver Prizes (700,000 won each), ▲ 4 Bronze Prizes (300,000 won each), and ▲ 3 Encouragement Prizes (100,000 won each). Park Inkyu, Director General for Science and Technology Innovation, will personally present the certificates and prize money.
In the subsequent performance report and research field meeting, researchers and research support staff who have actually used IRIS will participate to share the effects of the improvements and discuss future directions for advancing researcher-centered services.
Director General Park Inkyu stated, "Ideas that have arisen from on-site inconveniences are now becoming the foundation for creating an environment conducive to research immersion," and added, "We will continue to reflect the voices from the field so that IRIS can establish itself as a research support infrastructure that enhances researchers' convenience and immersion."
