Geumdangsan Artificial Waterfall Plaza
About 80 Volunteers to Participate
On January 1, 2026, the first day of the new year, Gwangju Seogu District will host the "2026 Geumdangsan Sunrise Tteokguk Sharing Event" at the Geumdangsan Artificial Waterfall Plaza, starting at 6:00 a.m.
According to Seogu District on December 30, this event, organized by the Seogu Saemaeul Association, has been prepared to wish for the well-being of local residents, to share warmth among neighbors, and to welcome a hopeful new year.
On this day, around 80 volunteers, including Seogu Saemaeul leaders, will serve tteokguk (rice cake soup) and hot tea, which they have prepared themselves, to about 2,000 residents.
The first hike of the new year with Seogu residents will also take place. Seogu District plans to climb Geumdangsan together with residents who have contributed to the development of the community in various fields such as administration, welfare, and the economy over the past year, pledging a strong start to 2026. Participants will depart from the artificial waterfall at 6:40 a.m. and reach the summit at Hwangsaejeong, with the sunrise expected at 7:40 a.m. that day.
Seogu District, led by the Resident Autonomy Division, is thoroughly preparing for the smooth operation of the event and the prevention of accidents by establishing a response system for each area, including assigning traffic guides, providing emergency medical support, and carrying out snow removal operations.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seogu District, stated, "With the dynamic energy of the horse in 2026, our Seogu will take another leap forward," adding, "I hope that the new year's morning, which begins by sharing tteokguk with our residents, will be remembered as a moment of warm hope."
