Gwangju's Seogu District will hold the "2026 Geumdangsan Sunrise Tteokguk Sharing Event" at the Geumdangsan Artificial Waterfall Plaza area starting at 6:50 a.m. on New Year's Day, January 1, 2026.
According to Seogu District on the 30th, this event, organized by the Seogu Saemaeul Association, has been arranged to wish for the well-being of local residents, foster warm connections among neighbors, and welcome a hopeful new year together.
On this day, about 80 volunteers, including Seogu Saemaeul leaders, will personally prepare and serve tteokguk (rice cake soup) and hot tea to approximately 2,000 residents.
The first mountain hike of the new year with Seogu residents will also take place. Seogu District plans to climb Geumdangsan together with residents who have contributed to the community's development in various fields such as administration, welfare, and the economy over the past year, pledging a strong start to 2026. Participants will depart from the artificial waterfall at 7:00 a.m. and reach the summit at Hwangsaejeong, with sunrise expected at 7:40 a.m. that day.
Seogu District, led by the Resident Autonomy Division, is establishing a comprehensive response system for smooth event operation and accident prevention, including deploying traffic guides, providing emergency medical support, and conducting snow removal work.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seogu District, stated, "With the dynamic energy of the Year of the Horse, 2026 will be a year for Seogu to take another leap forward," adding, "I hope the New Year's morning, starting with sharing tteokguk with our residents, will be remembered as a warm moment of hope."
