The SK Telecom consortium, which is participating in the government-led 'Independent AI Foundation Model' project, is launching its bid to become one of the global top three in AI and realize 'AI for All' by introducing its massive AI model, 'A.X K1,' with 500 billion parameters.
On December 30, at the 'Independent AI Foundation Model Project First Presentation' hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT at COEX in Seoul, SK Telecom will unveil A.X K1 through a public presentation. The presentation will be delivered by Jung Seokgeun, Head of SKT AI CIC.
SK Telecom plans to emphasize that, as AI performance is directly linked to model scale, a 500-billion-parameter super-large model is essential for Korea to reach the level of the global top three in AI. A.X K1 is highlighted as a general-purpose model capable of solving complex industrial and social problems, with a focus on AI's potential role as social infrastructure (SOC).
Additionally, SK Telecom presents its differentiated 'AI value chain,' which connects infrastructure, models, and services, centered on the GPU cluster 'Haein' and the Ulsan AI Data Center. The company also highlights its collaborative research with faculty from Seoul National University and KAIST, as well as the combined technological and service capabilities of participating companies such as Rebellions, Krafton, 42dot, Riner, and SelectStar.
The company also emphasizes its expansion strategy covering both B2C and B2B markets. Based on its AI service 'A.Dot,' which has 10 million users, SK Telecom aims to drive AI transformation across industries through collaboration with group affiliates such as SK Hynix, SK Innovation, and SK AX.
At the on-site experience booth, visitors can directly use the A.X K1-based chatbot in both 'Quick Mode' and 'Reasoning Mode.' Quick Mode focuses on everyday information searches, while Reasoning Mode is designed for complex reasoning tasks such as solving college entrance exam questions or Vibe coding.
Kim Taeyoon, Head of Foundation Model at SK Telecom, stated, "A.X K1 is a model that can be expanded beyond chatbots to a variety of services," and added, "We will continue our efforts to become one of the global top three in AI and realize AI for all."
