Gimpo City and Yonsei University Develop and Distribute AI-SW Textbooks to Local Schools
Developing Region-Specific Educational Content Based on Contest Ideas
Yonsei University Authors Conduct On-Site Pilot Classes at Schools
Gimpo City in Gyeonggi Province has developed and distributed textbooks containing AI-SW convergence education ideas tailored to local characteristics to middle and high schools in the area. The city has also implemented pilot classes using these materials at high schools, which have received a highly positive response.
The newly distributed textbooks were developed based on the winning entries from an AI-SW convergence education curriculum idea contest held earlier this year for students and faculty at Yonsei University. These textbooks have been provided to teachers within the city.
The textbooks feature curriculum content that integrates artificial intelligence and software with various academic subjects and real-life issues. A key characteristic is that the core ideas from the contest’s winning entries have been systematized into lesson plans, achievement standards, and assessment plans, allowing for immediate application in schools.
To help teachers and students better understand and apply AI-SW convergence education, the textbooks were developed with input from a review committee composed of active education experts. The content and structure have been tailored to suit the educational environment of middle and high schools, and the materials are expected to be used in regular classes as well as in a variety of other educational programs in the future.
Additionally, to verify the effectiveness of these textbooks and enhance their applicability in the field, the curriculum authors themselves conducted pilot classes at high schools. Through these pilot sessions, they shared real-life teaching cases, assessed student engagement and learning outcomes, and plan to reflect these insights in future contests and textbook development.
An official from Gimpo City stated, "The production of these textbooks marks the first step in spreading outstanding AI-SW convergence education ideas to schools," adding, "By incorporating feedback from the pilot classes, we will continue to expand practical AI-SW convergence education models that can be used in middle and high schools."
Meanwhile, Gimpo City, in collaboration with Yonsei University, has laid the foundation for local students to become future talents through a variety of initiatives this year, including the operation of the AI-SW convergence education curriculum idea contest, textbook development, school education programs, competitions, and mentoring. The city plans to continue building on these achievements with a range of new projects next year.
