Influencer Liu Ergou... Account Suspended
A Chinese influencer with 44 million followers has had their account suspended after live streaming a pool party at a hot spring.
According to the South China Morning Post and other sources on the 29th, the Chinese influencer, who goes by the nickname Liu Ergou, broadcasted a three-hour live stream of a party attended by around 20 people. The video reportedly attracted over one million viewers on a short-form video platform with 44 million followers.
The live stream featured numerous close-up shots of scantily clad women’s chests and buttocks. Liu and other male participants were also seen playing pranks with the women or throwing them into the pool.
Liu was seen applying body lotion to a woman while promoting the product for sale. Some viewers reportedly flagged the video to the platform, describing its content as vulgar. However, clips from the live stream continued to spread. It is reported that some viewers reported the video to the platform, citing its vulgar content.
More than 10 days later, the short-form video platform blocked Liu’s account for “violating the rules.” Some have criticized the platform’s slow response, raising suspicions that such content is tolerated to drive traffic.
Liu, who is from Sichuan Province in southwestern China, is notorious for using vulgar language in his videos. He is known for hurling insults during live streams and boasting about his gambling history. He has also incited fights among other live streamers or encouraged them to take on extreme challenges, such as eating spicy oil, to attract attention.
Some have argued that the platform’s punishment is too lenient. Although new content uploads have been banned, his account remains accessible and his follower count continues to grow.
