According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 29th, as cold air moves southward, frigid air from the northwest is expected to flow into the country starting late at night.
As a result, the morning low temperatures the next day will range from -8 to 3 degrees Celsius, which is 5 to 10 degrees lower than the morning of the 29th (-4 to 8 degrees Celsius). The daytime high temperatures on the 30th will also be significantly lower, ranging from 0 to 9 degrees Celsius, compared to 7 to 15 degrees Celsius on the 29th.
The forecasted minimum and maximum temperatures for major cities are as follows: Seoul -3°C and 2°C, Incheon -4°C and 2°C, Daejeon -3°C and 4°C, Gwangju -1°C and 6°C, Daegu -1°C and 7°C, Ulsan 1°C and 8°C, and Busan 3°C and 9°C.
On the morning of the 31st, the minimum temperature is expected to range from -12 to -1 degrees Celsius, and the daytime high from -5 to 4 degrees Celsius. On January 1st of next year, the morning low is forecast to be between -16 and -4 degrees Celsius, with daytime highs between -6 and 4 degrees Celsius.
However, the air is expected to remain clear. The northwesterly winds bringing this cold spell will be cold but clean, dispersing fine dust.
Due to the dry atmosphere, caution is needed in some areas to prevent fires. Dry weather advisories have been issued for the east coast of Gangwon, the southern mountainous regions, the east coast of North Gyeongsang, the northeastern mountainous regions, as well as parts of Busan, Ulsan, and South Gyeongsang. The air remains dry, and in the Yeongdong region of Gangwon, strong winds with gusts up to around 55 km/h (70 km/h in mountainous areas) are expected until the 30th, increasing the risk of large fires such as wildfires.
In the distant offshore areas of the central and southern East Sea, from the night of the 29th, strong winds of 30 to 60 km/h (8 to 16 m/s) and high waves of 1 to 4 meters are expected, so caution is advised when navigating or operating at sea.
