Case Assigned to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metropolitan Investigation Division at Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency will launch a direct investigation into allegations that Coupang concealed an industrial accident.

According to the police on December 29, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Metropolitan Investigation Division at the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency was assigned the case on December 26 regarding accusations that Coupang covered up an industrial accident related to the death of the late Jang Deokjun.
Earlier, on December 23, labor unions representing delivery workers and others filed a complaint against Bom Kim, Chairman of Coupang Inc, on charges of instigating the destruction of evidence and violating the Occupational Safety and Health Act. They stated, "The deceased died from overwork in 2020 after excessive labor at a Coupang logistics center," and asserted, "Instead of acknowledging responsibility, Coupang and Bom Kim not only systematically downplayed and concealed the incident but also destroyed evidence."
Meanwhile, Coupang Fulfillment Services, a logistics subsidiary of Coupang, was also reported to authorities on charges including occupational negligence resulting in death.
