Energy Management System Aligned with International Standards
Laying the Foundation for a Sustainable Busan Port
An 'energy-saving manual' has been introduced at Busan Port, which operates around the clock without pause.
Busan Port Authority (BPA), led by President Song Sanggeun, has obtained certification for the Energy Management System (ISO 50001), an international standard.
ISO 50001 is an international standard designed to systematically manage an organization's energy use and to continuously promote improvements in energy efficiency and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. It encompasses the entire process, from establishing an energy policy and setting objectives to implementation, review, and improvement.
To obtain this certification, Busan Port Authority has carried out a series of steps, including analyzing current energy usage, setting energy performance indicators, establishing monitoring and management procedures, and raising awareness and providing education for employees.
In particular, Busan Port Authority is implementing a variety of decarbonization and energy policies, such as supporting the electrification of cargo handling equipment and expanding renewable energy facilities within the port. Through this certification, the authority plans to further advance these policies into a more systematic and sustainable energy management system.
Song Sanggeun, President of Busan Port Authority, stated, "We will continue to enhance energy efficiency to realize sustainable growth for Busan Port and fulfill our social responsibility as a global port."
