Naju City in South Jeolla Province has been recognized for its systematic policy implementation in wildfire prevention and overall forest administration, achieving the distinction of winning awards in five categories at the forestry sector evaluations organized by Jeollanam-do.

On December 29, Naju City (Mayor Yoon Byungtae) announced that it received awards in a total of five categories at various forestry sector evaluations hosted by Jeollanam-do this year: Grand Prize at the Hibiscus Excellence Exhibition, Best Award for Wildfire Prevention and Response, Excellence Award at the Wildfire Ground Suppression and Integrated Command Competition, Excellence Award for Tree Planting, and Excellence Award in the Comprehensive Forest Administration Evaluation.

This recognition is the result of a comprehensive evaluation of the city’s capabilities in systematic timber harvesting, afforestation, and forest management projects for sustainable forest resource development, as well as the establishment of a proactive response system for wildfires, landslides, and forest pests and diseases.

In particular, Naju City received high marks in the wildfire sector evaluation for strengthening its on-site response system focused on wildfire prevention and initial response, and for improving practical response capabilities through ground suppression and integrated command training.

Additionally, the city received positive evaluations for its policies linking forestry with historical and cultural resources, such as hosting the Jeollanam-do Garden Festival to expand the achievements of the Yeongsangang Garden project, creating the Bulho Temple and Siksan Dulle-gil trails, and developing the Namdo Volunteer Army History Forest.

Naju City plans to further strengthen its forest disaster response system in the coming year, with a focus on establishing the Geumseongsan Ecological Forest Campground, relocating the city-operated nursery, and implementing pine wilt disease prevention and control projects, continuing to provide forest administration that citizens can truly experience.

A city official stated, "This achievement is the result of field-oriented administration to protect forests and proactive disaster response efforts," adding, "We will continue to pursue forest policies that prioritize creating a safe and healthy forest environment and protecting the lives and property of our citizens."
