Tulips and Poinsettias Planted in Key Areas Including Hwangridan-gil
Creating a Festive Year-End and New Year Atmosphere
Gyeongju City has revamped the urban street environment with winter flowers to welcome visitors, commemorating the hosting of the 2025 APEC Summit and its selection as a 'Korea Tourism Star.'
On December 29, Gyeongju City announced that it had completed the planting of winter flowers and landscape improvement projects in major downtown hubs and along main streets, including Hwangridan-gil, with a total project budget of 177 million won (entirely city-funded) throughout December.

This project was implemented to create an elegant urban landscape through seasonal roadside flower paths and to enhance the image of Gyeongju as a cultural tourism city.
The city planted 26,765 tulips, 10,215 daffodils, and 15,152 ornamental cabbages in flower beds at eight locations, including Seondeok Intersection, the City Library, Bomun Bridge, Geumseong Intersection, the entrance to the Citizens' Sports Complex, Jungang-ro, and Hwangseong Underpass Intersection.
Additionally, street flower pots were installed along 15 routes, including Daereungwon Stone Wall Road, Taejong-ro, Bonghwang-ro, and other areas on Yongdam-ro, to create a pedestrian-friendly streetscape.
In the Hwangridan-gil area, where tourist visits are concentrated, 56 poinsettia pots were installed on streetlights, creating a warm atmosphere that suits the year-end, New Year, and peak winter tourism season.
Previously, Gyeongju City had removed the existing autumn flowers and completed the planting of winter flowers, focusing administrative resources on maintaining and watering the new street landscape.
Mayor Joo Nak-young of Gyeongju stated, "We aimed to create a welcoming image for visitors by improving the urban landscape in conjunction with the international event," and added, "We will continue to enhance our competitiveness as a city for extended-stay tourism by creating beautiful streets throughout all four seasons."
