On December 29, Min Ki, Chief Secretary to the Prime Minister, visited a military unit to encourage the soldiers as the year comes to a close.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister, Chief Secretary Min visited the 988th Artillery Battalion under the 5th Infantry Division of the Army, located in Yeoncheon County, Gyeonggi Province, on this day. As part of an inspection of military readiness, he received briefings on the status of the reward position, command and control center, as well as general and operational updates. He also delivered consolation money and hamburgers to the soldiers of the unit.


Chief Secretary Min encouraged the soldiers by saying, "During your youth, a life dedicated to the country and its people is not only noble and precious as a member of the nation, but also a meaningful time personally. I hope you will keep this sense of duty in mind and overcome the challenges of military life." He added, "The government will work to ensure that military service for young people is not a period of disruption or obstacle to social life, but rather a time for self-development and preparation for the future."


The Office of the Prime Minister explained, "This visit was made to encourage the soldiers of the unit who are working day and night to defend the nation and protect liberal democracy, even in the midst of harsh winter weather."
