The new secondary battery inspection equipment developed by KNS has been recognized for its excellent performance, leading to a follow-up order. On December 29, KNS announced that it had signed a contract worth 1.4 billion KRW to supply next-generation inspection equipment for high-output cylindrical battery manufacturing processes to a domestic secondary battery parts manufacturer.
Previously, in April of this year, KNS supplied this new inspection equipment to a major client. The equipment ordered by KNS is a "next-generation 2170 cylindrical battery manufacturing process inspection system," which offers significantly enhanced performance compared to existing 2170-size cylindrical battery inspection systems.
Equipped with artificial intelligence (AI)-based deep learning technology, it boasts exceptional precision and enables real-time monitoring of tab position alignment, processing status, and defect detection. In addition to the 2170 inspection system, KNS also offers a lineup of inspection equipment compatible with various cylindrical battery specifications, including 4680 (46mm diameter).
Recently, as the electric vehicle (EV) secondary battery market is shifting to the 46mm diameter standard led by Tesla, the industry expects that demand for the 2170 battery will expand into future mobility sectors such as robots, drones, urban air mobility (UAM), and advanced aerial vehicles (AAV). The 2170 battery is highly regarded for providing high output while offering superior weight and space efficiency compared to the 46mm diameter, prismatic, and pouch-type batteries.
A KNS representative stated, "The high-output cylindrical battery inspection equipment supplied earlier this year was recognized for its outstanding performance, leading to this follow-up order. The 2170 inspection system is one of our flagship products, and we expect steady demand to continue with the expansion of small electric vehicles, electric two-wheelers, and the growth of the future mobility market."
