CEO Son Jaeil and Chief Secretary Kang Hoonshik Depart
Full-Scale Launch of Local Chunmoo Missile Production
Hanwha Aerospace will attend a signing ceremony with the Polish government for the local production of the Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) guided missiles. CEO Son Jaeil and Kang Hoonshik, Chief Presidential Secretary, departed on the 28th as "Special Envoys for Strategic Economy" in the field of defense industry.
According to Hanwha Aerospace on the 29th, the company signed a contract in December 2022 and has already delivered around 120 Chunmoo units to Poland. Hanwha Aerospace signed contracts to supply a total of 290 Chunmoo units: 218 units in July 2022 and 72 units in April last year.
Hanwha Aerospace reached a final agreement in September with WB Group, Poland’s largest private defense company, to establish a local joint venture (JV) for the production of Chunmoo guided missiles. This signing ceremony concerns the local production of Chunmoo in Poland.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Poland has emerged as one of the major importers of "K-Defense" products, including large-scale acquisitions of Korean-made K2 tanks, K9 self-propelled howitzers, and FA-50 light attack aircraft. In particular, the Polish government has demanded not only simple purchases but also stable, long-term operational support in the form of training, logistics, and technical assistance over several decades.
