Yangju City in Gyeonggi Province has been selected as an outstanding institution among cities with a population of less than 300,000 in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's comprehensive evaluation of 'Sustainable Transport Cities for 2025,' and will receive an institutional commendation.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has been conducting annual evaluations since 2010 in accordance with Article 15 of the 'Sustainable Transport and Logistics Development Act' to assess the sustainability of transport policies and encourage improvements.
The evaluation targets 71 provinces and cities with populations of over 100,000, and comprehensively diagnoses the environmental, social, and economic status of the transport sector as well as the outcomes of policy implementation.
This year's evaluation was conducted based on 26 indicators across four areas-environment, society, economy, and transport-related to transportation. A panel of 10 experts in the fields of transport and urban policy participated, enhancing objectivity and expertise.
Yangju City received consistently high scores across all evaluation criteria, leading to an excellent overall assessment. In particular, the city's ongoing investments to establish a safe transportation system, efforts to manage parking demand, reinforcement of traffic safety facility management, and expansion of energy-saving public transportation systems were recognized as exemplary transport policies that have been steadily pursued.
A Yangju City official stated, "This achievement was made possible thanks to the participation of traffic safety-related organizations and citizens who actively cooperated in advancing transport policies for the selection as a sustainable transport city. We will continue to implement effective transport administration that meets the expectations of our citizens and consistently develop sustainable transport policies."
