Korea Arts Management Service Announces "2025 Performing Arts Survey"
Operating Rate of Performance Venues Drops by 3 Percentage Points
The performing arts market revenue in 2024 increased by 7.3% compared to 2023.
According to the main results of the "2025 Performing Arts Survey (based on 2024 data)" released on December 29 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Arts Management Service, the performing arts market revenue in 2024 was approximately 1.5259 trillion won, a 7.3% increase from 1.4223 trillion won in 2023. The Performing Arts Survey is a nationally approved annual statistical survey that has been conducted since 2007. It examines the workforce, financial status, and performance records of performing arts venues and organizations to analyze the structure and trends of the performing arts market.
The operating rate of performance venues in 2024 was 51.5%, a decrease of 3 percentage points compared to the previous year's 54.5%. Ticket sales accounted for the largest portion of market revenue at 43.8%, followed by work sales income and performance appearance fees at 21.6%, venue rental income at 17.9%, non-performance business income at 7.7%, other income at 4.9%, and other performance business income at 4.1%.
By category, ticket sales increased by 3.2% year-on-year, venue rental income by 35.4%, non-performance business income by 50.0%, and other income by 10.7%. In contrast, work sales income and performance appearance fees decreased by 3.5%, and other performance business income fell by 27.2%.
This survey was conducted online from August 11 to October 2, 2025, targeting performance venues and organizations nationwide, and was carried out by Gallup Korea. The sampling error is ±6.0 percentage points for performance venues and ±3.5 percentage points for performance organizations at a 95% confidence level.
The "2025 Performing Arts Survey Report" will be released through the websites of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Arts Management Service, and the Performing Arts Integrated Computer Network.
